The Bethany men’s soccer team has had a tough season thus far and are trying to find ways to look at the positives. It can be easy to dismiss a season like this and forget it ever even happened. But they have continued to push on. Junior Broderick Brown mentioned that.

“Knowing that this year was a developing year and we keep building and growing as a team,” said Brown, “team chemistry is something we’ve focused on this year.”

One reason the team has had some struggles is because they don’t have any true seniors. They don’t have that true senior leadership with the oldest players being juniors.

Golf teams tee off for conference

By Brett LaBore

Consistency is something that we strive for as individuals everyday. When the routine is the same, it’s easier to get things done. That is exactly what the Bethany men’s and women’s golf teams are striving for this year.

There are more similarities than differences between the teams. Both teams have coaches who are familiar with golf, both teams are looking for consistency, and both are young.

But that youth is not stopping them from achieving what they want to achieve.

Although 90 degrees and humid its not necessarily the weather the Bethany golf team wanted to start out with, the scores and results they have earned in the heat are ones they can’t complain about.

After both the men’s and women’s golf accomplished things never done in the Bethany golf program (the girls fielding a full team for every invite and the men setting a new school record with a team score of 295), anticipation was high for the start of the season – especially the men. With setting a school record and great all-around golfing, the men know they are capable of great things this year – things like the national tournament.

A tradition was started in Ancient Greece of competing to see who was the best athlete, whether it be speed, stamina, or brute strength. That tradition is embodied today in Bethany’s first ever Outdoor Track and Field team.

The group started out last year as a club, but this year they are a full team. The team has only had one meet so far, but preparation began late last year with the Indoor Track team, which finished third in conference.

Almost everyone from the indoor team continued into the outdoor season, and a few new members were picked up in the transition.

It seems as if the temperatures keep dropping lower each day as the winter months continue, but the energy and determination of the Bethany indoor track and field team has been on a steady increase ever since the season started.

With a team of 11 men and 10 women, Bethany may not be the biggest team at the meets they attend, but when looking at the number, it is clear that small can still be mighty.
